Gerbers Leather Binding
OVERVIEW
Gerbers builds custom, hand bound machzor covers in fine Italian leather, made almost entirely for chosson and kallah clients starting a new stage of life. Each cover is made with the quality and craftsmanship to mark such an important occasion.
A custom cover from Gerbers is a serious purchase, and the client sees exactly what they're paying for. The brand had to show heritage and craft at a glance, but there was nothing to build from yet.
The audience made it trickier. Young couples starting families, comfortable with modern design, but wanting the feeling of heritage without anything dated. Too traditional, and the brand feels like it belongs to a previous generation. Too modern, and the craft stops feeling real.
THE CHALLENGE
APPROACH
We started with the type rather than any added ornament. A thin, rounded structure gives the wordmark a modern feel, while a few restrained serif details root it in something older. Neither one takes over. That balance is really the whole point of the brand.
From there, we built the identity around one idea: the material had to show up in the mark itself.

The updated system is carried across packaging, patterns, and print, built around a neutral palette with soft contrast and tactile finishes. The brand doesn't need to announce that it's premium. The execution does that on its own.
